These pieces have an essence, or soul, not found in manufactured dishware. I have always loved the usability of hand made pottery and my tableware line reflects that. I hope that you will find among these offerings that favorite mug or bowl or teapot that you seek out each time you have a cup of tea or your morning meal. These pieces are made of white stoneware clay, fired to 2400 degrees in a gas kiln. They may be put in the dishwasher or microwave. Dinnerware sets are available by custom order. |

Wood
fired |
Once a year I load my truck with pots and drive to Oregon for a firing in a traditional Japanese wood kiln. For two days we load our unglazed work into the kiln, which we then fire for four to five days, stoking round the clock with cordwood. Ash is accumulated on the pieces and melts to form a glaze. After a week of cooling, the kiln door is unbricked to reveal the results of our labor. The effect is earthy, subtle, random, reflecting the flow of the flame through the twenty-five foot kiln. |
Textureware |
After becoming involved with wood firing, and realizing that I could only make the trek to Oregon once a year, I needed to come up with a way to fire similar pieces in my own gas kiln. These pieces are similar in style but glazed with soda ash, and Shino and Tenmoku glazes. They retain some of the delightful unpredictability of the wood fired work. The forms are repeated, but each piece has it's own subtle differences. As with any of my work, ask me about what may be available.
